Friday 8th March
Headteacher's Update
We were delighted to welcome the Mayor of Basingstoke, Cllr David Leeks to the Federation today as he visited both the Infant & the Junior School to celebrate World Book Day with pupils and staff.
The theme for World Book Day this year was “Read Your Own Way” and children came dressed to school as their favourite book character, author or illustrator.
The Mayor of Basingstoke came dressed in his civic regalia and spoke to the children about his own love of books and some of his favourite authors, which happens to be Paddington Bear.
In the run up to World Book Day, the Federation has also run other events to celebrate and encourage reading for fun. The events included:
Virtual Author Meets:
· Peter Bently, author of over 70 books such as “Hamster Heroes” and “Snow White in Space”, met with Year R, 1 and 2
· Laura Ellen Anderson, author and illustrator of “Rainbow Grey” and popular series “Amelia Fang”, met with Year 3 and 4
· Simon James Green, an author who enjoys writing humorous fiction such as “Life of Riley: Beginners Luck” “Finn Jones Was Here”, met with Year 5 and 6
Shared Reading Sessions. All of the school came together on Monday to read with friends outside of their year group and classroom.
Morning Reading Café. Parents came into school to read with their children.
The Big Book Swap. Children brought their own books into school that they no longer need to swap with friends, ensuring ‘old’ books were given a new home.
Its also been great to see children and adults dressed up as Book Characters today. Well done to everyone who got involved.
Red Nose Day
This year our School Council have decided that we will be raising money for Comic Relief by having a baking competition and then an afterschool cake sale on Red Nose Day. Children are invited to bake at home and bring in cakes/biscuits/bread on Friday 15th March.
Children can explore the Red Nose day website at home for baking ideas here Can you bake something funny, show-stopping and stunning or wonky, weird and wonderful? Your brilliant bakes could bring in some serious dough for Comic Relief.
In school we will be exploring where the money raised goes and how doing something funny can fight poverty through humour and fun. Our School Councillors will then judge the baking competition, award a winner per class and help to run an after-school cake sale.
If you'd like to be involved in the competition, please start planning your bakes and remember to bring in to school on Friday 15th - ensure your creation has a name label please!
Please remember to bring your cash for the afterschool cake sales (one sale at each school playground).
On Friday 15th children should wear normal school uniform but can wear a red accessory too if they'd like, for example this could be a red nose, red socks, red hair accessory.
