Headteacher's Update

Representatives form both schools visited the Yew Tree Garden Centre this week for the annual Christmas Tree Dig! Our Year 6 Ambassadors; Zara, Fin, Addie and Oliver and representatives from the Year 1/2 classes; Zac, Felix and Imogen did a wonderful job of digging up huge Nordman trees for the school halls. We look forward to putting them up and decorating them next week!

A big thank you to Mr Chaffe and Oliver's mum for supporting us with transport and digging skills!  As always we are incredibly grateful to the Yew Tree Garden Centre for their very generous donations to both schools.

Children in Need

A report from the Young Journalists:

"Children in Need day was amazing.  This year the children dressed up in either bright, yellow and spotty clothing or they came as their heroes.  This included Pudsey bear, gladiators, Mums and Dads and lots of MR SCOTTS!

The school council said thank you to everyone who donated money to the Charity. Everyone had such amazing costumes and they were very impressed. They gave out awards for the best dressed!

The infant schools costumes were also very impressive.  They decided to dress up in yellow and spotty clothing which looked amazing. Both schools had a bake sale and the cakes were the yummiest we had ever tasted. Thank you if you donated to the the charity - Children in Need will be very happy."

Junior Ambassador Christmas Fun Day

Important date for your diaries: Friday 20th December (last day of term). As is now tradition, the Year 6 Ambassadors are organising a Christmas Fun Day for the junior school children in aid of two charities they have chosen and researched.

This year they will support the Crisis homeless charity and St Michael’s Hospice – as part of their Leadership role they will do some Courageous Advocacy work around this with the rest of the school to educate them about the charities and how their money will support and help this Christmas.

The day is called ‘Reindeer Rumble’ and the Ambassadors would like children to come to school dressed in a festive way or as a reindeer for a £1 (minimum) donation to the charities!

They are running Christmas games for free at lunchtimes – there will be prizes! They are also organising two other events children can get involved with during the day:

1. A ‘Reindeer Run’ with certificates for winners in each year group – there is an additional £1 charge to enter the run event.

2. Selling special iced reindeer biscuits for 50p each during the afternoon (and more sales after school if they don’t all sell!)

We hope children and families can support this event and dig deep to help others at Christmas.

Reminders

Unfortunately there have been a few incidents in recent weeks of some parents speaking to staff in a rude manner. We all want the best for the children and this can only be achieved by working together collaboratively. I would like to remind parents to engage with staff in a polite, respectful and constructive way.

Boots and trainers are not part of our school uniform. All children should wear black school shoes. Please contact your child's teacher if there is a specific reason why your child has incorrect footwear.

Please can children not bring toys to school. These can cause problems if they are lost or damaged and can also interfere with learning.

Clubs at the Junior School

We wanted to make parents aware that the school gates at the Junior School will remain closed from 3.35pm until all school clubs have finished. This is to ensure pupils remain safe i.e. that strangers are unable to wander onto the premises. Pupils will be dismissed from the gate at the end of the club.
