New Trees Planted

The Eco Team and School Councillors did a fantastic job yesterday afternoon of planting 27 new young trees on the Junior school site.

This was the end of a project started by the School Council to develop more spaces for nature and to increase biodiversity at The Schools of Woolton Hill. The children helped apply for the grant and plan the planting. They then took full responsibility for planting the trees, adding tree protection guards and labelling them.

This project was made possible by the Hampshire Forest Partnership who supplied the trees and lots of helpful advice and guidance. We planted a total of 22 different native British tree species including some of the children's choices such as the Copper Beech, Elder, Rowan, Oak, Hazel and Silver Birch.

All of the children did a great job and were actively involved in helping to make a small difference to their community. They are excited to watch the trees grow and develop and know they can revisit the school in many years to come and see the tree they planted!

We discussed the idea with the children of kindness that will not impact you directly and that "The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit." - Nelson Henderson
